During her educational studies at Howard University, Dr. Harris worked as a behavioral technician conducting behavioral modification techniques with autistic children. While in graduate school, Dr. Harris worked in the field of psychological research performing clinical interviewing and administering research based psychological assessment tools as a research assistant at the
Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC.
She also worked on a study at
Georgetown University Hospital Lombardi Cancer Center pediatric ward, and received publication acknowledgments on both research studies.
Dr. Harris was also involved in a research study as lead consultant researcher on a Depression study at
Kaiser Permanente pediatric department.
Thereafter, she began working at the
Arlington Emergency Mental Health facility where she conducted mental status exams to individuals in crisis.
Dr. Harris served as a psychological extern at the National Center for Children and Families.
She was then accepted as a psychological extern at the Howard University Counseling Center. Dr. Harris also served as a psychological extern at the
District of Columbia Superior Court, Child Guidance Clinic. Dr. Harris’ residency in the doctoral program was completed at the
Art Institute of Washington.
Professionally, Dr. Harris’ career started off conducting psychological assessments for the
District of Columbia Public Charter Schools. Shortly thereafter, she expanded to conducting comprehensive psychological and psycho-educational assessments in Maryland and Virginia. Dr. Harris furthered her career by teaching undergraduate courses in psychology at the
Northern Virginia Community College. In addition to teaching, Dr. Harris continues to work with various school districts, as well as families with children and adolescents with suspected mental health disorders and/or disabilities.
